The German press has published glowing reports on the tourist interest for Greece, with the German financial journal Wirtschaftswoche declaring Greece a “summer hit”.

According to an article in Deutsche Welle, Greece has managed to overturn its negative reputation amongst tourists that was attributed to the strikes, demonstrations and limited flight availability.

As such, German tourists have been flocking to Greece, with tour operator TUI pointing out that 400,000 Germans are expected to visit Greece.

Tourist destinations in Peloponnesus will benefit greatly from the sharp increase of tourism, while TUI’s main competitor Thomas Cook notes that the islands of Kos and Kerkyra are especially popular in the current season.

Due to high demand, Thomas Cook has extended its tourist season by three weeks, offering various packages until mid November.
