The five detained Turkish nationals, who were arrested last week during a combined Coast Guard and Police operation with the support of the DEA, are scheduled to testify today. An Albanian man who later surrendered himself to the Coast Guard will testify on Friday.

The investigating judges ordered the detention of three the five Greeks who were arrested in relation to the drug cartel, namely ship-owner Efthimios Giannousakis, his former wife and her partner. The other two, Giannousakis’ former mother-in-law and her housekeeper, were set free without bail.

In his testimony Giannousakis claimed to have had no idea about the heroin that was recovered from a warehouse in Koropi and his former wife’s home. The investigating judge was not convinced by his arguments and ordered his detention until his trial.
