The 23-year-old Pakistani who is accused of seriously assaulting a 16-year-old girl on a secluded beach in Paros two summers ago is going to go on trial today. The mother of the 16-year-old victim told media that “there must be a conviction, for my child, not me. My child will never be the same again”.

In October the 23-year-old Pakistani received a one year prison sentence with three year suspension after it was found that he had lied about his age, in an effort to be tried as a minor. The main trial had been postponed in October as many of the witnesses were in the USA with Myrto.

The 16-year-old victim Myrto recently returned to Greece from the USA, where she had been receiving treatment at a rehabilitation center for the past seven months. She will continue receiving treatment at a specialist rehabilitation center located in Larissa.

At the rehabilitation center in Larissa Myrto will receive physiotherapy, intensive speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychological support and an alternative communication system, as at present she can only communicate with her eyes.
