The Ministers of Labor Vroutsis, Growth Hatzidakis and Interior Michelakis presented a welfare program to benefit about 50,000 unemployed.

The Minister of Labor explained that the purpose of the program is twofold; to support and improve the financial state of the unemployed and to cover social needs, while increasing the quality of provided services.

The budget of the program is 216 million euros, which have been provided by various development programs of the European Central Bank and the European Regional Development Fund.

The program will benefit about 50,000 unemployed who have registered with state employment agency OAED, with single-parent families, long-term unemployed taking priority.

These 50,000 will be appointed to five-month posts in municipal and regional services, which include schools, courts, insurance funds and other public services. The monthly net income for those over the age of 25 will be 490 euros, compared to 427 euros for those under 25.
