The Ministry of Education is preparing its lists of 4,600 secondary education teachers who are to be transferred. So far there have been 5,750 applications submitted. About 1,000 postings will follow, from about 12,000 requests. The Ministry of Education has hinted that aside from about 2,500 substitute teachers that are to be hired this year, recruitments of permanent staff will be minimal.

Meanwhile the situation in higher education is just as tense, as the Ministry prepares lists with 1,700 administrative staff to be suspended. This issue will likely dominate the upcoming rector Synod in Kerkyra on Friday.

The Senate of the National Technical University of Athens has authorized rector Simos Simopoulos to apply to the Council of State for injunction orders in case suspension orders are issued to the institution, as the suspension measure is in conflict with European legislation and the Greek constitution.

The Senate also held that that the suspension of administrative staff will have an unprecedented, detrimental effect on the educational and research work of the university. The Senate of University of Athens is scheduled to convene today to discuss the matter. The departure of a large number of its administrative staff has also worried the Senate of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki.
