A number of amendments to the recent omnibus bill have been submitted in Parliament, with a vote expected to take place on Thursday. The amendments were introduced at the request of Greece’s creditors, in order to complete the bailout review and unlock financial aid.
The amendments include various changes to the payroll of special categories in the public sector (armed forces, police, doctors, judges, diplomats, academics etc), the contingency mechanism, the new privatization ‘super fund’, ADMIE and the EKAS benefit.
On Tuesday To Vima was told by Finance Ministry officials that the Greek government has completed preparations for the disbursement of the tranche, which is expected after Monday 13 June. Prior to the disbursement though, the troika will issue a report, with the agreement then being tabled in European Houses of Parliament for approval.
The same sources also revealed that an agreement has not yet been reached over the non-performing loans. This, the ministerial sources noted, may be addressed at a later point. A teleconference focused on NPLs may take place, since Economy Minister Giorgos Stathakis is currently away at the OECD.
Ministerial council meeting at 3pm
The Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has called a ministerial meeting for 3pm on Thursday, which will be televised. Senior government officials are confident that an agreement will be reaching in time for Thursday’s ECB meeting, so that the tranche is paid out in time.
