The government spokesperson Olga Gerovasili revealed that the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel had a telephone conversation on Tuesday morning about the refugee crisis and the recent statements of Turkish PM Ahmed Davutoglu over join NATO patrols in the Aegean.

According to Mrs. Gerovasili the Greek Prime Minister made it perfectly clear that the potential involvement of NATO in the refugee crisis will be in Turkish territory and that such a development must not affect Greek sovereignty. Although it has not been clarified how NATO will get involved at present, it nevertheless put an end to joint Greek-Turkish patrols that were previously rejected.

Meanwhile, the government spokesperson called the farmers to enter talks with the government, stressing that “the invitation for an exhaustive and honest discussion is always on the table, but it cannot be from scratch”. Mrs. Gerovasili underlined that the government’s goal is to find the best possible solution and called the farmers to isolate those who are using to protests to push forward their own agendas.
