During Wednesday’s ministerial meeting Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras revealed the 11 government priorities for the first half of 2016 and underlined the need to expedite and better coordinate efforts. The 11 actions which the government must take are the following:

  • Implement legislation on television licenses
  • Introduce legislation for the country’s production restructuring
  • Introduce a bill for the restructuring of public administration
  • Vote on reforms in healthcare and covering the uninsured
  • Introduce a bill for the social economy and social enterprises
  • Introduce legislation to change the terms in research funding
  • Table a bill for the modernization and productivity of private and public works
  • Submit a bill to review public contracts
  • Introduce a bill for combating the illicit trade of tobacco products
  • Issue a joint ministerial decision by February to tackle the illicit fuel trade
  • Introduce legislation for the voluntary revelation of tax evasion

In addressing his ministers, PM Tsipras commented that the government will be judged by its work and underlined that there can be no delays in the implementation of the aforementioned actions. The Prime Minister also expressed his optimism that the government would gradually exit the crisis in 2016.
