Greece has won its first medal in the IAAF World Championships in Beijing thanks to Nicole Kyriakopoulou, who won the bronze medal in the pole vault final.

The Greek champion finished in third place thanks to a 4.85-meter jump. She raised the bar to 4.90 meters, but unfortunately failed in both attempts. Cuba’s Yarisley Silva took the gold medal with a 4.90m jump, while Brazil’s Fabiana Murer came second with a 4.85m jump.

Tsakonas fails to progress to 200m final

Unfortunately sprinter Lykourgos Tsakonas was unable to qualify to the 200-meter dash final on Wednesday afternoon, as he came in 11th in the semi finals.
