The General Secretary of Social Insurance Giorgos Romanias has alleged that the planned reforms in the Greek pension system are based on recommendations by the European Commission’s Directorate-General of Economic and Financial Affairs Giuseppe Carone.

Mr. Romanias told Mega Channel that there recommendations “comply with a mathematical reasoning” and derived from an algorithm which he estimated is “non applicable in practice; it is absurd, it is pure madness”.

To demonstrate the problematic nature of the algorithm in question, he argued that a single mother with 5,500 insurance stamps, who has not reached the age 55 by the end of June 2015 may not be able to retire even in 2022, when she will be 62 years old.

Furthermore he argued that the Greek negotiation team is not informed on the critical issues related to social insurance, claiming that they are unable to even provide a definition of social insurance.
