Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras contacted Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiadis late on Monday evening in order to discus the latest dramatic developments in Greece, following the declaration of a referendum on Sunday.

The spokesman for the Cypriot government Nikos Christoulidis alluded that the discussion took place ahead of the telephone discussion that the Cypriot President will have with EU officials and heads of state regarding Greece.

According to the Cypriot spokesman, with this initiative Mr. Anastasiades aims to provide an agreement that will ensure that Greece remains a part of the Eurozone.
