Pensioners of the self employment pension fund OAEE will only be credited with 50% of their pension on Wednesday, as the fund was unable to amass the necessary 272 million euros due to the bank holiday.

With banks closed, it was not possible for the self employed to make pay in their contributions to the fund, which in turn forced the Ministry of Social Insurance to take this decision. OAEE director Tasos Petropoulos gave a press conference detailing the situation.

The average OAEE pension is about 700 euros, meaning that only 350 euros would be credited on Wednesday. Given that caps on cash withdrawals, pensioners may only draw 60 euros from ATMs or 120 euros from the bank branches that will open on Wednesday explicitly for the pensioners.
