The leader of the main opposition and New Democracy Antonis Samaras has traveled to the Latvian capital of Riga, where he will participate in the European People’s Party summit.

While in Riga, Mr. Samaras has arranged meetings on the sidelines of the summit with a number of foreign leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The main issue on the agenda will be the recent developments, as well as what stance New Democracy will adopt towards the imminent agreement.

Close associates of Mr. Samaras suggest that the New Democracy leader is in favor of signing an agreement as soon as possible, but he will express his opinion after he has been informed of the new agreement’s content.

Mr. Samaras is expected to repeat his opposition to the introduction of recessionary measures and will demand a policy change so that Greece can finish with the memoranda over the next 18 months.
