A young man has been rushed to the hospital after he set fire to himself in the middle of a street in Piraeus, in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The tragic incident reportedly took place shortly after 3am on Vitolion Street in Piraeus.

Witnesses reported that the man doused himself with a flammable liquid before setting fire to himself. The man was instantly engulfed by the flames and screamed as passers by and local residents attempted to help him and extinguish the fire. The identity of the man is not yet known, but witnesses reported that from his screaming he must be foreign.

The man has been taken the General State Hospital of Nikea with sever burns and is in a critical condition. A police investigation has been launched, but so far there is not indication as to the man’s motives.
