The Mayor of Halandri Simos Roussos expressed his anger and sorrow at the serious damages that were caused to the Rematia Theater on Monday and alleged that a “mafia style arson attack” was carried out and announced that a festival planned for the 6th of June will go along as normal.

According to Mr. Roussos, who spoke to Mega Channel on Tuesday morning, the theater’s seats were doused with a flammable liquid and gas canisters were located in the area, with the Mayor noting that efforts have been made so that the theater did not receive its license. He explained that the theater was constructed 34 years ago and has operated as the municipality’s sole culture space.

Mr. Roussos vowed to restore the damages and argued that the municipal authorities will not give in to the pressure. The Mayor noted that with the assistance of the District of Attica, the municipal services have begun clearing up the theater and will be prepared, he claimed, for a festival scheduled for the 6th of June.
