The 595 cleaning staff members of the Ministry of Finances who challenged their dismissal broke out in celebrations and cheers after a bill was passed in Parliament that reinstated them. The elated cleaning staff began celebrating outside the Ministry of Finances, after having fought for their reinstatement after 571 days.
The Minister of Finances Yanis Varoufakis commented that “my thoughts are with them”, shortly before he traveled to Brussels for Monday’s critical Eurogroup session. The Alternate Minister of Finances Nantia Valavani arrived at her office early on Monday morning, with a box of sweets and expressed her enthusiasm and support for their struggle.
The Alternate Minister of Administrative Reform Giorgos Katrougalos underlined that the cleaning staff members were victorious because they fought.
