The Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens announced that an earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale occurred at 00:32 on Monday morning, in a maritime area southeast of Crete.

The earthquake was felt around Ierapetra and the southeast coastline of the island. According to the announcement, the epicenter was 42 kilometers west of Ierapetra and 54.7 kilometers south southeast of Heraklion, at a depth of about 17 kilometers.

Another earthquake, this time measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale, took place at 8:02am on Monday, about 35 kilometers south of Kasos and 65 kilometers south of Karpathos, at a depth of about 10 kilometers. The effects were felt as far away as the southeast coast of Crete.
