The Alternate Minister of Finances Dimitris Mardas provided assurances that the 200-million-euro loan payment towards the International Monetary Fund will be completed on Wednesday.

Mr. Mardas told Mega Channel that the General Accounting Office and the Public Debt Management Organization (ODDIH) have already carried out the necessary actions for the loan payment.

When asked about the next loan payment of 750 million euros, which is due on the 12th of May, the Alternate Minister commented that if need be, it will be paid off with the savings from pension funds which have not transferred their funds to the Bank of Greece.

Although credit rating agencies have clarified that they will not downgrade Greece’s rating to ‘default’ if a payment towards the IMF is missed, such a development would undoubtedly have a negative impact on the country’s trained relations with its creditors and the markets.
