The Council of State appears to have ruled that the reduction of main and supplementary pensions, as well as the “zero deficit” clause of pension funds conflict with the constitution, according to Parliament Vice President and SYRIZA MP Alexis Mitropoulos.
Mr. Mitropoulos made the revelation regarding the ruling in a Thursday-morning televised interview for ANT1. The State Council’s ruling is irrevocable and is expected to come into effect as soon as the Minister of Finances has been notified.
According to Mr. Mitropoulos, the Council of State examined the case, after about 100 pensioners filed an action against the cuts. Mr. Mitropoulos added that ruling can be a powerful negotiation tool in the talks with the creditors.
