The Minister of National Defense Panos Kammenos has awarded Sergeant Antonios Deligiorgis with the Medal of Outstanding Acts, when he recently rescued a number of migrants off the coast of Rhodes, after their boat capsized.

He rescued twenty children, pregnant women and men, along with the people of Rhodes who participated in the rescued, even defying the health problem he has” Mr. Kammenos commented.

He further added that “this outstanding act, just like that of many other noncommissioned officers, officers, national guardsmen and soldiers reflects the high morale and readiness of the Armed Forces”.

Dramatic footage from last week shows the sergeant carrying over his shoulder one pregnant migrant from Eritrea. The woman later gave birth to a healthy boy, whom she named after the sergeant in gratitude.
