Thanks to a buzzer beater by Giorgos Printezis, Olympiacos FC managed to defeat Barcelona 71-68 in game four of the Euroleague quarter finals in a packed out Peace and Stadium in Piraeus. Although Barcelona had the home advantage in the quarter finals, the “Reds” managed a break in the second game in Spain and became the favorite to progress to the Final 4 in Madrid.

Unlike the previous games in the series, the Reds did not start off well, allowing Xavier Pascual’s team to take an 8-point lead by half-time (29-37). Yannis Sferopoulos managed to motivate his players though, with team captain Vasilis Spanoulis and Vangelis Mantzaris keeping Olympiacos in the game.

At the end of the third quarter the two teams were tied (50-50), without any team having a clear advantage. The score was rather close throughout the final, dramatic quarter, with the Spanish team appearing to be in the position to equalize the series. However, in the final moments of the game and with his team trailing by one point, Juan Carlos Navarro missed a critical free throw.

With the two teams now tied (68-68) Olympiacos had the ball in the final play. In the final seconds of the game Giorgos Printezis received the ball and with an impressive three-pointer buzzer beater sent his team to the Euroleague Final 4 in Spain.

There, the reds will face CSKA Moscow, who eliminated Greek champions Panathinaikos earlier this week. In the other pair of the F4, hosts Real Madrid will face is The Final 4 will be held in Madrid on the 15th to 17th of May.
