The General Secretariat of Public Revenue announced that more than 45,000 taxpayers have submitted applications for the new debt settlement since Friday, with 32,000 being submitted on Monday alone.

With thousands of debtors rushing to take advantage of the new beneficial debt settlement, the government will begin collecting by the end of the week. According to the new settlement, the first payment is due three days after submission. Any debtors who do not make their first payment within that deadline may reapply for the settlement.

Debtors have two options available. The first concerns debts derived from income taxes, ENFIA, VAT, parental benefits, inheritance taxes etc. Debtors n this case must submit an application online by the 27th of April and make their first payment within three days. Surcharges equal to the amount of the payment made will be written off, with the remaining debt payable in up to 100 installments. The advance payment is 100 or 200 euros.

According to the second option, debtors have until the 26th of May to submit an application and concerns debts that have been declared outstanding by the 1st of March. By paying in up to 100 installments, debtors can have 30% of surcharges written off. There is not interest rate on debts of up to 5,000 euros. The minimum payment is 20 euros, but debtors missing 2 consecutive payments in 2015 or 3 consecutive payments in 2016 will not be covered by the settlement.
