A ship carrying migrants ran aground in the Zefyros maritime area near Rhodes, on Monday morning. The Coast Guard has launched a rescued operation and is assisted by privately-owned craft.

So far, the Coast Guard has reportedly rescued 80 migrants, with 23 of them being forwarded to local hospitals for medical care as a precaution. A further 57 have been taken to the local police authorities.

Local media outlets have reported that the majority of migrants appear to be from Syria. Ambulances, police and coast guard are on stand by to provide further help.

Unfortunately, the Coast Guard recovered the remains of three migrants – one man, one woman and one child.
