The Central Union of Municipalities and Communities of Greece (KEDE) has arranged an emergency meeting for 10am on Thursday morning, in order to discuss the problems related to the latest wave of migration. The Alternate Minister of Migration Policy Tasia Christodoulopoulou will be present.

Mrs. Christodoulopoulou has estimated that about 100,000 refugees will arrive in Greece within 2015. The government is currently working on plans for the creation of hospitality centers, in cooperation with municipalities and the district of Attica, which will come into effect by June.

The government plans include the creation of temporary camps on the islands where the migrants first arrive, where their details will be documented. More permanent hospitality areas will be created in major cities, which at present are lacking the necessary infrastructure.

There are three options: we will either lock them up in detention centers, accommodate them or drown them”, she stressed in an earlier interview onANT1. Mrs. Christodoulopoulou has maintained that Greece is unable to address the problem on its own resources and called for the European Commission to provide emergency assistance.
