The State Minister Alekos Flampouraris stressed that he was “100% certain” of an agreement being reached at the upcoming Eurogroup on the 24th of April, while noting that Greece will not give in to the pressure on critical subjects.

In an interview on Mega Channel, Mr. Flampouraris underlined that the VAT rate would not increase, even on popular tourist destinations such as Myconos and Santorini. He also rejected the possibility of imposing an emergency levy, although he hinted that a levy on high incomes may be introduced at a later point.

Regarding the recent bout of occupations, Mr. Flampouraris recognized that the Alternate Minister of Public Order Yannis Panousis observed the correct policy against occupations and vandalism, but was not 100% successful in dealing with the problems at hand. The State Minister expressed his hope to “reduce and erase” the problem.

When asked about the migration issues in Greece, Mr. Flampouraris stated that this matter must be dealt with within a European framework. The State Minister also commented that migrant detention camps alone cannot be a solution and that “Europe must help”.
