Two cars that appear to belong to employees at the mining operation in Skouries have been damaged and reported to the police, while the tension between employees and local residents escalates. The damages were reported to have taken place on Sunday evening.

On Sunday both sides carried out demonstrations over the operation of the controversial mining operation. Local residents have complained that they were assaulted by the riot police and miners, with four protesters reported to have been injured.

SYRIZA MP Katerina Iglezi told Sto Kokkino that the riot police also used tear gas to disperse the protesters. Mrs. Iglezi stressed that “what happened was unprecedented” and accused the police of colluding with the miners against local residents. The miners on their behalf claim to have been assaulted by hooded individuals, which resulted in two miners being injured.
