The nationwide union of archeological site guards (PEYFA) has expressed its opposition to the Ministry of Finances’ proposal on providing free access to museums and sites, in an effort to bolster state revenue.

According to the latest list of reform proposals, the government wants to introduce a new ticketing policy based on traffic and cultural significance, which will include free admission once or twice a month (depending on the season). This measure will aim to generate 5 to 10 million euros in 2015 and 20 million euros from 2016 onwards.

According to the union though, a similar measure for free admission had been in effect for many years and was abolished because the State was losing huge sums of money. The union demands that the proposal be withdrawn, as it will have a negative impact on public revenue.
