The European Central Bank is considering the possibility of leaving from the troika, according to a Tuesday report in the German financial newspaper Handelsblatt.

The report claims that the debate with the European Central Bank reflects the concerns that its plan for purchasing state treasury bills may lead to a conflict of interests. As such, the ECB will take the opportunity to leave the troika, according to a German government source. The article also stresses the new Greek government’s declaration to end the bailout program and not cooperate with the troika.

The Handelsblatt article also mentions that the International Monetary Fund is also examining the possibility of departing from the troika, which would then leave the European Commission alone. Additionally it claims that the Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker is pessimistic about the troika and is considering ideas for a body with greater democratic checks.
