The police announced that it has arrested seven men – three Cypriots, three Greeks and one Pakistani – for running a human trafficking ring, after carrying out investigations in Athens and Thessaloniki. The head of the ring is believed to be amongst the seven men arrested.

According to the police report, the gang began trafficking migrants last October via the “Macedonia” airport of Thessaloniki. Amongst those arrested are the owner and an employee of a travel agent, along with airport employees who were in charge of check-on and boarding services at the airport.

During the investigations, the police recovered a number of counterfeit passports and other documents which were to be used for trafficking purposes.
