The Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change is preparing legislation in order to expedite the declassification process of forested areas and to establish an electronic protection network.

According to a report in Ta Nea, the draft bill will set a 10-day time limit for declassifying forested areas, during which time the forest authorities and the Ministry must publicize their ruling.

The goal of the legislation is to improve the degree of transparency in situations where forest authorities have been called upon to determine whether an area is to be classified as a forest or not.
