According to a report in Ta Nea, the coalition government is considering the possibility of reducing the VAT on essential household goods.

The Ministry of Growth is preparing plans in order to reduce the tax on certain categories of essential goods, such as bread, milk and olive oil, in an effort in increase consumption.

The coalition government has considered similar plans in the past, with the reduction of VAT in food to 13% being regarded as an effective measure. A further tax reduction is expected to further increase consumption.
