The Deputy Minister of Finances Christos Staikouras announced that the coalition government will allocate 5.5 million euros to the Ministry of Education for student housing benefits.
According to Mr. Staikouras, the need for additional funds in student housing benefits came from the significant increase of beneficiary students. Mr. Staikouras further stressed the government’s social sensibilities.
The move is believed to be a response to the social policies recently outlined by SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras in Thessaloniki.
