Four MPs for the Democratic Left – Nikos Tsoukalis, Dimitris Anagnostakis, Asimina Xirotiri and Niki Founta – have requested that a judicial and administrative investigation over the allegations of IMF chief Christine Lagarde that she received threats against her life by Greek tax evaders.

The four MPs made the request in Parliament in response to comments that Mrs. Lagarde made to the Financial Times when she was asked about tax evasion and the investigation of the “Lagarde List” by Greek tax authorities. Mrs. Lagarde responded that “I better not say too much because, you know, when I have talked about Greece and its taxes before, I got death threats and we had to increase security”.

This revelation along with the troubles in tackling the tax evasion problem in a meaningful way, argue the four MPs, contribute towards the impression of illicit “mafia-life” relations within the state. The four MPs have requested that the Ministers of Finances and Justice respond to Mrs. Lagarde’s allegations and carry out the necessary judicial and administrative investigation.
