The recent archeological discoveries in Ancient Amphipolis, along with the visit by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, are being covered by media from all over the world.

The Associated Press reported on Mr. Samaras’ visit to the archeological dig site and stressed that the findings are considered “extremely important”. Similarly, Reuters and the Washington Post argued that the discovery in Amphipolis is very important and cited statements of PM Samaras.

The French news agency AFP noted that the discovery of the ancient tomb hides many secrets and featured comments by the supervising archeologist K. Peristeri. The French report suggests that the tomb may belong to Alexander the Great or another member of the royal family. The electronic edition of Le Figaro featured a short report.

The Guardian has also covered the archeological discovery, noting that the dig commenced in 2012 and that there is no clear indication that Alexander the Great may be associated with the tomb. Nevertheless, the archeologists will likely gain access within the tomb by the end of August and will then know more about who was buried there.

The BBC featured comments of the Prime Minister in its report, stressing the importance of the archeological discovery. The report also details other archeological findings in Macedonia, particularly the dig in Vergina in 1977, when the tomb of Alexander the Great’s father, Philip, was discovered.

In Germany, Focus, DPA and Süddeutsche Zeitung and other media praised the Greek archeologists for their impressive find, while expressing Greek hopes that the tomb may belong to a member of Alexander the Great’s family.
