The controversial public sector staff review system has come under fire, specifically the provision of a 15% quota for employees that will be deemed to be inefficient and graded bellow average, prompting strikes and protests.

To that end the Ministry of Administrative Reform is preparing changes to the controversial review system, with Prime Minister Samaras and government Vice President Venizelos concerned that the insecurity amongst civil servants over potential dismissals will trigger further unrest and delays in the public sector. These changes should be ready within the week.

The Minister of Administrative Reform Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his Deputy Evi Christofilopoulou are considering changes to the legislation, so that the troika-mandated dismissals in the public sector are not explicitly associated to the staff review system. For 2014 alone the coalition government has promised creditors to make 6,500 employees redundant.
