Contrary to the stereotypical depiction of Greeks as a party-loving people, an OECD report on health in 2013 shows that alcohol consumption in Greece is bellow average divs.
The study shows that the average person in Greece consumes 8.2 liters of alcoholic beverages per year, when the OECD member-state average is 9.4 liters. Since 1990 there has been a significant 23% reduction in consumption in Greece – one of the greatest in the styd.
Furthermore, at the age of 15, only 25% of boys and 20% of girls admit to have been drunk at least twice in their life, a full 5% less than OECD average scores for both sexes. Binge drinking amongst young people also appears to a rather uncommon occurrence.
Unfortunately however, Greece has some of the highest rates of overweight and obesity amongst OECD members-states; about one in three children in Greece is overweight or obese, despite an improvement in the past few years.
