On Tuesday morning the sirens in the free areas of Cyprus sounded, bringing back memories of the traitorous coup from the dictatorship in Athens that resulted in the Turkish invasion that split the island in two.

To commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the coup, the President of the Cypriot Democracy Nikos Anastasiadis will attend the official memorial service for those who sacrificed their lives in defense of the rule of law and democracy.

The Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II will preside over the memorial service, while the Cypriot Minister of Education Kostas Kadis will deliver a speech.

The House of Representatives will hold a special session for the anniversary of the coup and Turkish invasion, while political parties and organizations will hold memorial services and events to honor the victims of the coup and invasion.
