The government is considering charging EOPYY policy holders one euro for each medical appointment they book with EOPYY doctors who operate private clinics. As expected, this has caused the reaction of doctors and insurance policy holders alike, with the doctor union accusing the government of adopting a “monumentally arbitrary and absolutist approach” which is unacceptable.

The controversial measure was discussed as the EOPYY doctors appear to have booked up all of their contractually obligated free visits for EOPYY policy holders, which means that the patients are forced to pay for visiting their private clinics in the afternoon.

The EOPYY management and contracted doctors have reacted to the plans since they feel that the government is attempting to confiscate private clinics. Additionally they accuse the government of looking out for the interests of the private telecommunications companies handling telephone appointments.
