The dramatic shift in weather conditions on Tuesday afternoon has caused major problems across the country.

The heavy rainfall flooded streets and knocked out telephone lines for about hours in the center and eastern sections of Volos. Electricity was also knocked in Anavros, Nea Dimitriada, Asteria, Agria, Lechonia and villages south of Pilio.

In the city of Pyrgos the Fire Brigade received about 150 calls for flooded basements and rooms, while five trees in the area around Katakolo had to be removed after falling over.

In Fire Brigade was also called out about 20 times in eastern sections of Thessaloniki for floods, primarily in Epanomi, Michaniona and Agia Triada. The rainfall also contributed to many traffic accidents, while one truck folded in half on the city ring road.

In Attica the Region Government’s Directorate of Civil Protection remains on full alert, while technical services have been tasked with clearing out water drains around the road network to avoid flooding.
