The Minister of Productive Reconstruction Panagiotis Lafazanis appears to be prepared to reject an agreement with Greece’s creditors and is making preparing for a return to a national currency.

Mr. Lafazanis, who is in charge of the Left Platform – SYRIZA’s hard-line ‘internal opposition’, runs the Iskra.gr website, where an article was posted shortly after the recent Eurozone Summit meeting. In the article, penned by Nikos Perperas, Greece’s options are discussed in light of Germany’s implacability and Sunday’s referendum.

Should Germany not back down and insist upon its hard line, ignoring the will of the Greek people as expressed in the referendum, then Greece may be forced to adopt a national currency. The author underlines the need for «consequence and stability«, in line with the «giant popular mandate«, otherwise the situation will get worse.

The author concludes that while Greece has “many options” other than a return to a national currency, they are all difficult, with the “worst of all” being a surrender to the institutions.
