The spokesperson for coalition government partner Independent Greeks Marina Chrysoveloni disputed the “innocence” of the ongoing farmer protests, since the farmers are refusing talks and to meet with the Prime Minister.

The farmers are not coming to talks and that raises many doubts and suspicions as to the innocence, if I can say so, of their mobilizations” she told the Praktorio radio station.

Mrs. Chrysoveloni underlined that it is not usual of the Prime Minister to call the farmers to talk and that other professional sectors took advantage of such opportunities and entered talks. The farmers, on the other hand, are even refusing to attend the Tuesday session of the Production and Trade Committee.

What are they farmers aiming for? Overthrow the government? Well, they will not succeed” she further stressed and when asked which of the farmer demands the government can satisfy, she responded that the Prime Minister is always open to talks. Mrs. Chrysoveloni added that “the farmers must be realistic and prove that they are not after something else”.
