The Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is scheduled to meet with the newly-elected president of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday amid tension, as both sides appear to be gearing towards an escalation.

According to the Prime Minister’s office, the new leadership of the main opposition party is a mixture of “far right” attitudes and “neoliberal obsessions”.

On the other hand, New Democracy has indicated that it will veto the appointments for National Council for Radio and Television (ESR), unless two conditions are met; firstly that the powers of State Minister Nikos Pappas be restricted and secondly that the ESR is granted licensing powers.

The Constitution stipulates that a 4/5 majority is needed in order to approve the appointment of new members to the council.
