The nationwide federation of dock workers OMYLE and dock worker union of Piraeus hve sent an letter to the caretaker government requesting that the privatization of ports be suspended until a new government is appointed.

In their letter addressed to caretaker PM Vasiliki Thanou, Economy Minister Nikos Christodoulakis and Shipping Alternate Minister Christos Zois, the dock workers argue that the caretaker government is not legitimated to carry out the planned sale.

Furthermore, they stress that the privatization will surrender crucial activities such as tourism, shipping, transportations, import and export trade to foreign or private monopoly interests. The sale, they argue, alludes to models encountered in “countries with colonial regimes”.
