The caretaker Prime Minister Vasiliki Thanou has arranged to meet with the European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos and the Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans at 4:30pm.

According to a statement by the European Commission Delegation in Athens, the purpose of the visit is to discuss practical solution in order to address the migration crisis as efficiently as possible.

The visit of the two European Commission officials is of particular importance as it has been schedule a few days before the State of the Union Speech that EC president Jean-Claude Juncker will give, where the refugee and migration crisis is expected to be a major issue.

Following the discussion with PM Thanou, Mr. Avramopoulos and Mr. Timmermans will visit the Frontex offices and the island of Kos, which has seen a dramatic refugee influx in recent months, from where they will give a press conference. Upon their return to Athens on Friday, they will meet President Prokopis Pavlopoulos at 4:30pm.
