A Bolivian-flagged freighter, the Haddad 1, was seized by the Coast Guard in a coordinated operation off the coast of Crete on Tuesday afternoon. The freighter, which was bound for Libya, was carrying weapons.

The operation was launched after Greek authorities received information – possibly from national intelligence agency EYP – regarding its illicit cargo. The ship had departed from Iskendeun in Turkey and was headed for Libya.

The freighter, which had a crew of seven (reportedly Syrians, Egyptians and Indians) has since been transferred to the port in Iraklio, where it will be investigated.
