A 40-year-old man tragically fell to his death on Tuesday afternoon as he was attempting to climb the Skolios slope, which is situated at an altitude of about 2,600 meters on Mount Olympus.

The man is said to have fallen many meters right before the eyes of his companions, who promptly contacted for help via radio. Although rescue services arrived promptly, it was too late for the 40-year-old man, who appears to have died instantly. The 40-year-old’s companions, who were shocked by his fall, are all in good health.

According to experienced rock climbers, the particular slope on Mount Olympus is one of the more challenging climbs in Greece. An operation is currently under way to transfer his body to Katerini. An investigation has also been launched to determine what caused his fall.
