The General Secretary of Social Insurance Giorgos Romanias announced his intention to resign from his post at the Ministry of Labor on Monday, after the new leadership is sworn in and the hand-over ceremony is carried out.

Mr. Romanias told Mega Channel on Saturday that he informed the new leadership of the Ministry of his decision during an informal meeting, noting that he was appointed to implement certain principles and that it was a “major humiliation” to carry on and do the exact opposite.

According to Mr. Romanias, he is not in the position to implement the new legislation and reforms in the pension system, arguing that he “cannot give a pension of 87 euros to a disabled person, because that is what has been enacted”. Mr. Romanias also alleged that the Ministry of Labor was ignored when the pension reform was designed.
