Two wagons from a freight train traveling from Piraeus to Hungary were derailed at about 6:45 on Thursday morning, within the Tempi tunnel.

No injuries have been reported and so far it has not yet been determined what caused the derailment. The fire brigade, along with technical teams from railway company OSE, has been dispatched to the area to investigate the situation.

Due to the incident railway services in the area have been suspended, with the railway services between Athens and Thessaloniki expected to experience significant delays. The suburban railway service between Thessaloniki and Larissa has been suspended.
