Anti-racism movement KEERFA has denounced a racist attack against migrant workers in Marathon and the destruction of their crops, similar to the attacks in Manolada.

According to the statement, a group of migrant workers from Pakistan rented out 25 acres of agricultural land to cultivate. A local producer for whom they worked for over ten years bullied them, demanded that they leave and the proceeded to destroy a large portion of their produce with his jeep, causing about 30,000 euros worth of damages. They claim that the land-owner invaded the house where they lived and assaulted one of them, whilst hurling racist abuse and threatening them.

The migrants argued that they had not been paid by the produced for a while and decided to stop working for him. Later they asked to rent the agricultural land to cultivate it themselves. The president of Pakistani Community Mr. Javed Aslam reported the racist attack with local police authorities.
