The leader of the Independent Greeks and Minister of National Defense Panos Kammenos warned that Greece will not back down any further from its claims in the negotiations with the creditors, arguing that unless a solution is provided by the end of June, then the IMF loan payments will not be paid.

In his interview on Mega Channel, Mr. Kammenos predicted that the IMF will withdraw from the negotiations, with the EFSF taking off the Fund and taking over from there on. The Greek government will then be able to come to a comprehensive agreement with the EFSF, by the 18th of June.

The outspoken Minister stressed that the measures that will be taken will have to ensure that the country’s debt is sustainable, so that the Greek economy may return to growth. As such he rejected rumors that government has accepted the abolition of the VAT discount that is provided to the islands.

Mr. Kammenos also expressed his “full support” to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and noted that his party has approved the Greek government’s agreement proposals. The ANEL leader also repeated his claim that the government’s intention is to keep Greece within the Eurozone, while pointing out that Chancellor Angela Merkel and her Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble are split on the subject.
